Summary

We are seeking an experienced Electronic Engineer to join our innovative, technology-led art studio, known internationally for creating interactive artworks and installations. This role plays a critical part in R&D and production, developing and overseeing the electronic systems that bring our artwork installations to life.

The Electronic Engineer will work closely with the Electronic Assembly Technician and production team. In addition to assembly work, the primary focus will be on designing, testing, and implementing custom PCB layouts and electronic systems. The role also includes responsibility for electrical QA and procurement, ensuring all components meet our quality standards. Close collaboration with our creative and technical teams ensures each project meets high standards for quality, safety, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the R&D lead for electronic development on new and existing projects, designing custom electronic solutions for a variety of digital and mechanical systems.
  • Responsible for PCB design, schematic capture, and electronic system integration.
  • Perform assembly work as needed, including soldering, wiring, and component integration.
  • Develop power management solutions for both AC/DC systems.
  • Lead electrical QA processes, including troubleshooting, debugging, and reverse engineering systems.
  • Manage procurement, monitoring stock and placing orders for critical components.
  • Collaborate with the production team to document designs and processes for quality control.
  • Support installations, requiring occasional travel to set up, install, and troubleshoot onsite.

Requirements:

  • Degree in electronic design, fabrication, or engineering.
  • Strong background in electronic engineering, with experience in analog and digital systems.
  • Proven experience in schematic capture, PCB design, and layout using software such Eagle.
  • Practical experience with intercom, CCTV, or arcade game electronics is highly relevant.
  • Proficiency with electronic testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes) and hand tools (e.g., crimping tools, soldering irons).
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi).
  • Familiarity with power management and power distribution systems for AC/DC.
  • Ability to communicate technical solutions clearly to peers and non-engineering colleagues.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for installations (essential for the role).

Beneficial Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with screen assemblies, including LCD panels, backlighting, AD boards, and custom LVDS interfaces.
  • Familiarity with advanced computing platforms, such as the Nvidia Jetson family.
  • Previous experience in a creative studio or R&D environment.
  • Programming skills in C/C++ or Python.
  • Additional programming skills in scripting languages like Bash.
  • FPGA experience.
  • PAT testing certification and experience working onsite.
  • Demonstrated interest in creative technology, art, or design.
